This tomb is said to be to the grave of Olill Olum, an early king of Munster. This place is amazing. You walk over a the hill and there below you is the remain of a passage grave looking out on the surrounding landscape. This was a bit weird for me. The day itself was cloudy and blustery. I just said ...well Darby, if you want your photograph taken you better do something about the clouds. I didn't even have the tripod set up and the clouds started to clear. When I finished the clouds were back....... go figure. I have never heard so many cuckoos in one place. It is situated just outside the village of Galbally and worth a visit anytime....be warned, Duntryleague Passage Grave is in the middle of forestry land. The have felled the surrounding trees a number of years ago but have also planted new trees. The site itself is preserved...only just, but the views, which I think should be part of the site will be obscured again in a few years. There is a hotspot for you to view the inside of the grave. |
